Butterfly Trap

Butterfly Trap is an installation that explores the tension between confinement and freedom through a motor-driven butterfly enclosed in a transparent structure and its digital counterparts displayed on screens. By juxtaposing physical motion with mediated imagery, the work examines the fragile boundary between reality and simulation, and questions how freedom is constructed within technological systems.

Butterfly Trap은 투명한 박스 안에서 모터로 구동되는 나비와 디지털 스크린을 통해, 갇힌 존재와 자유롭게 비행하는 이미지 사이의 대비를 드러내는 설치 작품이다. 물리적 구조 안에서 반복적으로 움직이는 나비는 보호와 통제라는 이중적 의미를 동시에 지니며, 스크린 속 이미지와 병치되면서 현실과 디지털, 생명과 이미지의 경계를 모호하게 만든다. 이 작업은 우리가 기술을 통해 만들어낸 환경 속에서 자유가 어떻게 규정되고 제한되는지를 질문하며, 감시와 유혹, 탈출 욕망이 교차하는 공간을 형성한다.
