In July 2022, Surface Design MFA students at Sungkyunkwan University collaborated with Jongno District to develop the cultural product project “Ro, Damda.” The project focused on reinterpreting the visual identity of Jongno into contemporary patterns and expanding them into cultural goods. The final works were exhibited at the Bukchon exhibition space.

JJ’s contribution centered on reimagining traditional motifs symbolizing Jongno—such as azalea flowers, ginkgo trees, magpies, tigers, and traditional saekdong colors—into modern textile patterns. These patterns served as the foundation for a series of cultural products created for the project.

The resulting Jongno Nadri Package included items such as a pouch-shaped clutch, card wallet, handkerchief, and AirPods case. Through these designs, the project explores how traditional Korean imagery can be integrated naturally into contemporary lifestyle products, proposing a bridge between heritage and modern-use design.

2022년 7월, 성균관대학교 디자인학과 써피스디자인 전공 대학원생들은 종로구와 협력하여 ‘路, 담다’ 문화상품 개발 프로젝트를 진행하였다. 이번 프로젝트는 종로의 시각적 특징을 패턴으로 재해석하고 이를 문화상품으로 확장하는 데 중점을 두었으며, 최종 결과물은 북촌 전시실에서 공개되었다.

승진의 작업은 철쭉꽃, 은행나무, 까치, 호랑이 등 종로를 상징하는 전통 모티프와 색동 요소를 현대적 감각으로 재구성하는 데에서 출발한다. 이러한 시각적 요소들을 기반으로 패턴을 개발하고, 이를 다양한 문화상품에 적용하는 방식으로 작업을 전개하였다.

특히 귀주머니 형태의 클러치, 카드지갑, 손수건, 에어팟 케이스 등으로 구성된 종로 나들이 패키지는 전통 이미지가 일상 속 현대적 라이프스타일과 자연스럽게 연결될 수 있음을 제시하며 프로젝트의 핵심을 이루었다.
